FINEX Family Suppers kick-off & cookware sale

If you have taken the chance to try one of our ‘Dinner for Two’ options in the Tavern the past couple of years, you likely have seen your meal arrive in a cast-iron pan, crafted by FINEX cookware right up the road in Portland.  This rotating meal has proven a popular choice, so we’ve decided to take the idea one step further by creating a rotating $30 per person, three-course dinner, cooked and served family style in FINEX cast-iron, available in the dining room and Tavern. Children can share in the meal for $15, or order from the kid’s menu.

Available nightly, each meal will consist of a starter, entree and dessert, with the option to add a draft beverage of your choice for $5. Menus will rotate bi-weekly.

To kick this off, the first weekend, December 21 - 23, we will also have FINEX cookware available for sale at special prices, complete with recipes for the menu, just in time for Christmas.

Kick-off Menu  12/21-12/31

menu served gluten free, with exception of breads

Starter - Roasted fennel & winter squash, pumpkin seed pesto, parmesan

Main - Yankee pot roast, winter vegetables

served with house-made breads & roasted garlic butter

*vegetarian option available

Finish - Apple dumplings, vanilla cream

About FINEX: FINEX is a small team of Portland based craftspeople, cooks and designers dedicated to crafting cookware that will stand the test of time.  http://www.finexusa.com

NYE at Ruddick/Wood

With New Year's Day falling on a Tuesday this year, we will be open on Monday, December 31, for dinner service in the Dining Room and late night in the Tavern.

We’re excited to have The Big North Duo bringing their blend of bluegrass, country and swing to the Tavern to ring in the New Year, starting at 10:30pm. There will be a small, $5 cover, and a complimentary toast pour of sparkling wine.

"Christian McKee (vocals, mandolin, mandola) and Paul Prato (bass) began playing together in 2004, and have played together ever since. Now when The Big North Duo plays the audience smiles, toes tap, and everyone gets a break from the workaday world. The music comes from the deep catalogs of classic swing, blues and country, and also features original material drawing from those traditions. On any given night the music may be swinging hard or it may be mournful, but it’s always from the heart.”

In the dining room, we will be serving regular dinner hours, with seatings from 5 - 9pm, but will be offering a special menu for the evening, available as a $50 pre-fixe, with optional $20 wine pairing, or items may be ordered a la carte.

Bounty of Yamhill County Big Night

Join us for this annual party at Sokol Blosser to close-out BoYC.

Details here.

"Yamhill County, nestled in the heart of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, enjoys rich soils, a mild climate and some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere. This abundance of natural resources – and a strong pioneer spirit – has attracted innovative vintners, agricultural trailblazers, and some of the best chefs in the country.

The result is a delicious trifecta of 21st century visionaries primed to deliver innovative farm-to-fork plates, perfectly paired with unparalleled wines.

Bounty of Yamhill County (BOYC) is a three-day annual event that celebrates this vibrant community of famous wineries, celebrated chefs, and sustainable family farms. No other locally sourced food and wine event can boast such nationally recognized participants.

Bounty of Yamhill County has received national and international acclaim in the last several years – placing #2 in USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Award for Best General Food Festival and was names as one of The 10 Best Food Festivals in the USA by The Culture Trip.

And things keep getting better! Embracing our new mantra “Culinary Adventures in Oregon Wine Country” we’ve added new events to the weekend, including hiking, hot air ballooning, and horse back riding – topped off with delicious food and wine, of course.

In its sixth year, BOYC is a project of the Yamhill Enrichment Society (YES) – a local non-profit that supports important projects in education & the arts and food & agriculture."

Dinner on the Farm with Kookoolan

We're thrilled to be kicking off a new series as part of one of the Willamette Valley's best food & wine gathering: Bounty of Yamhill County.  Find us cooking up an exciting feast as part of, "Dinner on the Farm."

Find out more at http://www.bountyofyamhillcounty.com/event/dinner-on-the-farm-2017/

--

A true farm-to-table experience where your meal will be served on the farm where it was grown. Your hosts, Chrissie and Koorosh Zaerpoor, owners of Kookoolan Farms, will guide guests on a farm tour, sharing their experience of building their farm from scratch, from restoring their century-old farmhouse to learning how to drive a tractor, build a fence, raise animals and create a thriving, solar-powered, diversified family farm and meadery. You’ll dine alfresco as the sun sets over the Coast Range, savoring the farms’ bounty. Chef Paul Losch of Ruddick/Wood in Newberg creates his culinary magic with Kookoolan’s produce, grass-fed beef and pasture-raised poultry. Throughout the meal, enjoy a selection of estate and single vineyard wines from Erath, Dundee Hills’ first winery, known for producing elegant Pinot noirs.

Parking is limited at Kookoolan Farms. BOYC will provide a shuttle from Carlton. Shuttle details will be provided in August.

Terrain will be uneven and possibly dusty, so please wear sturdy, flat, comfortable shoes. While the evening may be quite warm to begin, it will cool as the sun sets. Please bring a light sweater or jacket. Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses recommended.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Yamhill Enrichment Society. Thank you for your support! Must be 21 or over.

2nd Annual Block Party

What better way to kick off the summer season than with a celebration?  We are partnering with Yamhill Community Action Partnership (YCAP) and some of our friends around Yamhill County to host a non-perishable food drive and community block party.

With Memorial Day weekend marking the start to the high season of the Northern Willamette Valley, we have invited some of their favorite valley vendors to throw a kick-off block party in downtown Newberg, Sunday, May 29.  Edwards Street between 1st and 2nd streets outside the Tavern will be closed for the day, with entrance reserved for attendees of the Block Party.  Festivities start at 4:30pm and go until 8pm.

The event will feature food from Ruddick/Wood alongside some of our favorite local food purveyors and craft brewers; live music; and a kid's activity area.  We are also partnering with the Yamhill Community Action Partnership to host the event as a non-perishable food drive benefiting the Yamhill County food bank, which distributes over 1million pounds of food to the community annually through 13 local food pantries.

Food vendors have been chosen for their shared commitment to highlighting the best products the valley has to offer, and it will show in their chosen street-food dish.  We are running the grill, and will be joined by Renaissance Catering from Newberg with their wood fired oven and NW Fresh Seafood serving the best in chilled fishes.  Also expect scoops of ice cream provided by Cream Northwest.  All food will be priced under $8.

For wine-lovers that have been sipping wine all weekend, nothing tastes better than a cold beer.  Deception Brewing of Dundee, Long Brewing of Newberg, and Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery will be pouring beers throughout the day.  Anyone wanting to drink wine or try a cocktail can head inside the Tavern where the full bar can be enjoyed.

Admission to the party will be $10 or 5 non-perishable food items, with children 12 and under getting in free of charge.  Food and beverage will be priced fairly, with all offerings under $8.   Tickets for the event can be purchased available day of event only.

Rain or shine, see you there!
